Since the pandemic, remote roles have gained a fixed position globally. Applicants vie for more roles remotely than the usual corporate 9-5 on-site roles. As so, it has become very competitive and applicants are searching for ways to stand out when applying for global remote roles.
In this blog post, the Dos and Don’ts of your application will be briefly discussed.
I will start with the Dos
- Have a readiness spirit.
Be mentally and emotionally ready for the position you are applying for. It is one thing to apply for a remote position, it is another thing to be ready for everything the role entails. Read about remote roles if you do not have any experience. Attain skills that go hand in hand with it and also gain good knowledge about the country (if you are applying outside your country) you are applying to.
- Build good communication skills
Let your communication skills be top-notch. Speak eloquently and let it reflect in your writing. Write a good concise CV and cover letter that makes it difficult for recruiters to ignore. Communicate the roles you have taken up in previous years in your CV and Cover letter and be sure it aligns with the current position you are applying for.
- Pay attention to Keywords
Tailor your CV and Cover letter to fit the required qualifications. The keywords are in the skills and the first three requirements stated in the role. I don’t mean the remaining listed requirements are not necessary, but most times, they are extra information.
Let’s tackle the Don’ts
- Do not be in a hurry
Out of desperation, we haste to hop on available openings as soon as we find them and miss out on the information the recruiter is trying to pass. Most roles do not have transferable skills and as such you need to read the information stated and give your CV some editing. The CV that was sent for a customer service representative role can’t be sent to a Data Analyst role. Take your time in tailoring your CV and Cover letter properly. To stand out, you have to do things that stand out.
- Do not skip information
The position, company, year you started, and ended the roles you once handled should be well-written in your CV. All information is important and nothing should be left out. By including this, the recruiters will know your background, strengths, and how experienced you are. Do not give incomplete information.
Conclusion
There are a lot of tips out there aside from the ones mentioned here that can enable you to stand out when applying for global remote roles. Read a lot, gain knowledge, then apply it.
